I hope you were able to read my previous post: “Joyful Reflections;” we are celebrating so much that has come to pass in the last 5 years as we reflect on our dreams.  This blog post addresses the things we pray and hope will come to pass.

In response to the question: What are some of your dreams for the future?

Tom wrote: “I dream of discipling others to help them grow in their faith.  I dream of living somewhere that I and my family are able to be a part of the lives of our neighbors.   That I would develop a relationship with the people who live around us and show them what it looks like to live as a Christian.  I dream that we would make a difference in their lives and that they would see us as safe people who actually care about who they are and what is happening in their lives and that as a result they would desire to follow Christ.”

Currently, we live in a mixed-racial neighborhood and are slowly getting to know our neighbors.  Please pray over us as “being a part of the lives of our neighbors” is more challenging and complicated cross-culturally, and takes LOTS of TIME; at the same time, cross-cultural relations are powerful.

I wrote:  “One night when I was eating with the Fairbanks, Rob asked Robi and I: “Where do you see yourself 5 years from now”?  I answered: Deeply invested in others lives, serving them in some capacity.  …  My dream is to grow in intimacy with Jesus and with others for the rest of my life.”

Tom illustrated my hopes accurately when he wrote:

“Ali dreams of having an open house where anyone can come and feel secure and safe in whatever state they are.   She would love to live somewhere and be at home during the day to get to know the women who live near her, and to be able to be there when one of them is having a difficult time… She is passionate about discipleship and dreams of ministering to others in a way that encourages them towards Christ.”

Tom is living out his dream of using the unique skills and abilities to serve in tangible ways in service to Christ and others through mission aviation overseas.  We have a vibrant marriage, a beautiful daughter, and growing walks with the Lord.  We are so blessed and filled with rejoicing, as the previous blog notes.  My dream to be deeply invested in the lives of others is taking time to come to pass… relationships take time!  Whether Kenya, or America, I desire to live life in community.  Join us in praying that God would direct our relationships in Kenya, provide opportunities for relationship with those around us, and create a meaningful community for us to engage in.
